Situated at an altitude of 4755 metres in the south of Mt. Kaliash, Taklakot is a small town in the valley of the Karnali River. It is one of the staging points for pilgrims to Mount Kailash. Also, it is believed that this land used to be the home of Sudhana, a previous incarnation of the Buddha. Taklakot is known by different names in different countries. In India and Nepal it is termed as Taklakot only whereas Tibetan knows it as Purang. Also, there is monastery named Tsegu Gompa, it is a nine-atorey Monastery which was probably originally a Bön establishment. The monastery contains many unique and ancient wall-painting, darkened from centuries of smoke. Time spent in Taklakot gives an experience of being in the mysterious past with destroyed forts, monastery, ancient scriptures & paintings around, but this experience is unique and can be fully enjoyed.
